New Year's Eve is a night of horror not only for many people but also for many pets. For owners, it's alcohol, while for pets, it's noise, smoke and explosions that alarm dogs and cats, who are more sensitive and harder to hear than humans.

Exhausting long car journeys, moving house, and holidays can all be additional stressors.

I am aware of many pets with cancer throughout the country, many of whom I have been able to follow closely or a little further afield. I am surprised to find that pain relief is often inadequate. Indeed, not all tumours hurt, at least in the early stages of their development. But the real problem is rather the failure to recognise the pain. Our little friends signal sudden pain, we all know what happens if we accidentally step on their tails for example, but chronic dull pain is tolerated without a sob. My recommendation is that animals with cancer should still be given CBD oil:

- if the treating vet prescribes a painkiller - use it as recommended! Regardless of whether or not you already use CBD oil.

- if you are indeed dealing with a tumour that does not cause pain, feel free to use CBD oil

because of the other benefits and improvements that are available.
